Performance (Dance) BTEC

Why Performance (Dance)?

Are you passionate about Dance? Dance, sparks creativity, encouraging young people to be inquisitive, disciplined and determined. Dance as a subject is unique, in that it blends artistic practice with physical activity and focusses on the aesthetic and artistic qualities and the symbolic use of movement to express and communicate ideas and concepts through the interrelated processes of performance and choreography.

What do I need to know?

Exam board: We study Performance Dance BTEC Extended Certificate

Entry Requirements: You should meet the standard Sixth Form requirements

Key Content: The BTEC Dance course, equivalent to a single A-Level, is an exciting and practical pathway for students passionate about dance. This course combines practical performance with academic study, offering a comprehensive understanding of the dance world. It’s ideal for students who want a creative and hands-on approach to learning, but would also like to study other subjects alongside particularly those who might consider further education or a career in the performing arts and dance industry.

The course covers a range of units that allow students to develop technical, creative, and theoretical skills. Practical components focus on developing physical skills through various dance styles, such as Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz techniques. ÍÆÅ®ÀÉÎÞÊ¥¹âÕ¬¸£Àû will have opportunities to develop choreographic skills through a deeper investigation into the process and outcome in order to craft highly complex, layered and exceptionally well structured choreographies that have a clear choreographic intent. In addition, the course incorporates theoretical elements, such as analysing professional works, understanding the history of dance, and studying anatomy and physiology to enhance performance.

ÍÆÅ®ÀÉÎÞÊ¥¹âÕ¬¸£Àû are rewarded along the way for consistent hard work, without the added pressure of written exams at the end.  The course is totally assessed through a range of assignments, predominantly performances and some focused coursework.
